Spring may bring better weather, but home workouts are still the most practical way to stay consistent. Free video content now covers much of what once required a gym or an outdoor session.
Use the devices you already own
A smartphone, a tablet, a smart TV or an online gaming system can all open up on-demand workouts. If you have not looked before, searching with a type of exercise plus a modifier will quickly turn up thousands of videos and printable plans.
Workout types: cardio, yoga, Pilates, dance fitness, balance exercises.
Age groups: kids, teens, adults, seniors.
Difficulty levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced.
Combine one term from each list, for example “beginner chair yoga for seniors”, and see what comes up.
Try apps and social platforms
Fitness apps and large social media platforms are also a good starting point. Many trainers post both free and subscription-based sessions that you can stream to any of the devices above. Search for terms such as public-access workouts, fitness, exercise or trainer. Content is refreshed regularly and often comes with reminders, which beats looking for an old DVD at the back of a cabinet.
A few practical tips
- Ask a family member to try it with you if you would like company or help with setup.
- Start with short sessions and build up.
- If you have a medical condition or an injury, check with your doctor before beginning.
